Swiss wine is so little known outside of Switzerland that hardly anyone has heard about the fact that the Swiss do produce wine. It's almost impossible to try a good swiss wine abroad, because only about 2% of production is exported. The fact that most of the really good wines are sold directly at the wineries and never reach the shelves doesn't help either. Last Friday at the restaurant Addis Ababa in Geneva we had the opportunity to taste a few interesting bottles.

Swiss tastings

Rosés can be regarded as controversial, but they are very popular indeed.. A tasting for few friends ended up being a series of two evenings, as we didn't find a venue big enough to fit everyone in all at once. Finally it took place in a tapas bar Taverna Iberica in Geneva (Switzerland) on the 21^st of July and 11^th of August.

It's not a mystery...

For some inexplicable reason wine tasting is considered a complete mystery and a kind of elitist activity - yet the majority of so called experts and wine critics have never had any formal education in this field. Nobody even checked their sensitivity to individual tastes and smells for example. On the other hand, it isn't possible to teach someone to taste. You can only explain the basics to people, to demonstrate how it should be done...then they are on their own.
